Measure the distance from the microphone from your pinky to your thumb. Adjust the mic to go around your mouth so you are talking past the microphone as opposed to directly into the mic.ģ.) Make ZERO contact with you mic during recording If you have the mic pointed directly at your face it will cause really bad plosives as the blasts of air of some letters make go straight from your mouth. Most decent microphones are extremely sensitive to touch and vibrations, and because of this you need to be very aware of what is going on around the microphone and the stand/arm. If you accidentally touch the mic while recording, go back and re-record that segment again. This will greatly effect the sound due to the vibrations that it will cause.Ī lot of people are what I like to call "Drifters". This means that whenever you begin speaking into the mic your head goes from one area to another. This occurs a lot with people who speak with their hands and their body. If you are at different distances from the microphone at different times during the recording it will sound like it's fading in and out. Stay consistent with the distance you are from the microphone. This one should be self-explanatory BUT you would be surprised at how many beginner podcasters and people using a microphone don't use a pop filter. They are not that expensive and it makes a WORLD of difference when listening back to the audio. This will eliminate all of those PLOSIVE P sounds and other dramatic sounds your breath will make when speaking naturally.
